This blog will be the ongoing documentation of our “departure adventure,” in which we plan to leave the DC area for something – and somewhere – new.  It will use principles of lifestyle design (recently popularized by Tim Ferriss in his book, “Four Hour Work Week“).  However, we’ll apply them to a slightly more mainstream scenario – a family with kids, in which the parents seek a more sane work/life balance than the modern day rat race will permit.

I don’t have any delusions of grandeur or vanity in writing this, but I am hopeful that through documenting a real-world application of the principles behind lifestyle design in a family situation, we’ll provide a useful reference for other families that might consider a similar overhaul in their own lives.

We won’t only focus on the factors into the decisions or the decisions themselves, but what processes and tools are used to get there.  Some will certainly be less than useful, but others have already proven invaluable in the process.

If you just found us, the first post is here: Decision Made.  Now What?
